Philips 55PFL5706/F7 55-inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Wireless Net TV, Black Reviews Price

Philips 55PFL5706/F7 55-inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Wireless Net TV, Black. The Philips 55PFL5706 is a unique specimen. This LCD TV features extensive internet connectivity, the likes of which we only expect from models that are more expensive. It supports Ethernet or Wi-Fi connections and has a whole slew of apps to take advantage of that connectivity. Unfortunately, this TV is missing some of the most important features we typically find in models that are even cheaper, namely color-adjustment options. If you don't like the colors on the screen the way they are when you open the box, you will be disappointed to discover that there isn't much you can do to adjust them to your tastes. If you aren't one of those people who have to have the color settings just right – and if you are, you know who you are – then this LCD TV is an economical option with great internet integration.

FEATURES

The Philips 55PFL5706 has one outstanding feature: seamless integration with the internet. If you have a Wi-Fi network in your home, you can pull this baby out of the box and hit the cyberspace highway right away. If you prefer a wired connection (which is more stable, faster and more secure), you can also connect via Ethernet. Once your TV is connected, you will have access to an array of apps for Netflix, Vudu and other popular online services, with the notable exceptions of YouTube, Amazon Video and Hulu. You also get vTuner, which grants you easy access to podcasts and internet radio – an interesting and rare feature for an LCD TV.

We are really impressed with the MediaConnect feature that allows you to link your laptop computer to the LCD TV and use it as a stand-in display for your computer's screen. Although this isn't the fastest or sharpest connection we've ever seen, it does mitigate some of the weaknesses in the basic internet interface. (Although this LCD TV lacks a YouTube-friendly app, you can still access YouTube videos on your laptop and stream them to your television from there.) Better yet, the connection is wireless; you don't have to worry about purchasing and connecting another cable. Nevertheless, you can still connect via cables if your Wi-Fi connection is too slow.
